I set up a profile on the Icelandic music-social-website gogoyoko and uploaded my first album, Griffin. You can listen to samples, buy a single song or the whole album. If you sign up you can also add one or more songs to your personal playlist where you can listen to full-lenght versions of the songs. Right now it’s only open to people in Iceland as a part of their beta testing. But they should be opening globally very soon - later this year.

This song ended a bit different than what I had in mind when I sat down to crank out some tunes… I was going to do a little more upbeat song but somehow ended with this ambient track. It also sounds a bit different after I converted it to MP3 than when I listened to it in Ableton Live - not sure if that’s just my imagination or what…

I felt like creating some music so I sat down with my Korg R3 and Ableton Live and hammered out some stuff… It’s a bit rough around the edges - but with the limited time I spent on this I wouldn’t expect anything spectacular.

I’m slowly getting familiar with Ableton Live - learning how it all works… Here is a test song I did.

Not sure why… but the MP3 version sounds a bit different than when I listened to it in Albeton Live (mainly the drums in the middle part). Maybe I have to change some settings or do something else to make it sound right…

Oh, and these songs are licenced under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 United States License. Which basically means that you can distribute these songs and/or use them to create remixes, mashups, etc. but you must give credit (to Griffin de la Funk) and you can’t sell it.

Griffin resurrected

So… a while back, around the beginning of the millennium (2000-2002) I made some songs. You can listen to them here. I used the amazing program Dance eJay to create those songs - eJay is a pretty basic and straight forward program but limited to some degree - nice for beginners.

I haven’t done much since then - but some time ago I decided to get back into “the game”. The first thing I did was find a new moniker - back then I just used “Griffin” but earlier this year I discovered that there is actually a Norwegian metal band that calls themselves Griffin (and even another metal band from California). So, while flying to Alicante, Spain I brainstormed a few dozen new monikers and ended with Griffin de la Funk - mainly because I thought it sounded cool ;)

Then I started getting some music-making tools. I bought a Korg R3 synthesizer and hooked it up to my laptop. A bit later I got Ableton Live 7 and Operator. I should be able to crank out some noise with that ;)

So, here we go…
